Flagler county has been hit hard by the rescission. It has perhaps the highest home foreclosure rate in the state and businesses, on and off the airport, have been failing there at an alarming rate.
In 2009 the airport opened a contract tower to service the mainly flight training operations there that really generate no income. Now the airport is ready to spend $6 million of your tax dollars to extend the runway by 500 feet.
Pardon me if I remain underwhelmed by the “expansion” of what was, before 2009, one of my favorite Florida airports.
